The Field Marshall Tractor could be hand-started with the aid of a de-compression device operated by a disc running in a groove on the flywheel. A smoldering paper wick inserted into a metal rod (see below number plate) screwed into the cylinder head provided an aid to assist combustion when starting the engine. In cold weather self starting could be achieved by placing a special cartridge in a receptacle (near the upper leading edge of the radiator grille) and discharging it by whacking the protruding pin with an appropriate blunt instrument. |
