First known as the "United" the Allis-Chalmers Model U was first produced for The United Tractor & Implement Company in 1928. On the demise of the company Allis-Chalmers continued producing it as the Model U. Early versions were powered by a Continental L-head side valve engine of 4.25 x 5 inch bore and stroke. From 1933 onwards Allis-Chalmers produced their own 34 hp overhead valve four cylinder UM engine for the Model U. With reliability second to none and an excellent reputation for power and performance very little upgrading or modification was necessary during it's long production life. |
