John Deere Model 820 Tractor 1957

The John Deere Model 820 was the largest and most powerful tractor of the 20 series of tractors introduced in 1956.  The main engine was started with a petrol donkey engine (usually called a 'pony' engine in America) and a de-compressor which allowed the diesel engine to get up to the appropriate starting speed.  Maximum power output of the Model 820 at 1.125 r.p.m was 69.7 h.p. at the draw-bar and 75.6 h.p. at the belt pulley.  Transmission was via six forward and a two reverse speed gearbox.  Power steering was standard on the 20 series from the 520 upwards.  Other standard features of the 20 series were: a pedal to engage the drive to the power take-off, draft control hydraulics, an adjustable drivers seat with padded cushion and backrest.  The familiar green colour scheme was enhanced with the addition of yellow flashes.  The weight of the Model 820 was 7,850 (pounds). When production of the 820 ceased in 1958 a total of 7,080 units had been built,
