Fordson Major Model E27N Tractor 1947

The Fordson Major Model E27N Tractor was introduced in 1945.  It retained the Model N's 28.5 h.p. petrol and tractor vaporizing oil (TVO) side-valve engine with cast iron pistons, splash feed lubrication, magneto ignition and starting handle.  The Model N gearbox was also retained but the rest of the transmission was re-designed with a single-plate clutch, crown wheel differential, spur gear final drive and independent drum rear wheel brakes.  A standard or high speed transmission was optional giving a top speed of 4.17 m.p.h.or 7.48 m.p.h. respectively. Tractors with the low speed top gear had a green spot painted on the transmission housing and a red spot if the optional higher gear was fitted.
